A Modern Fairy Tale Wedding: Rob and Mary

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with Mary and Rob in on a cold January evening this year in Martinsville. Living in Bloomington, they were in need of someone local to Indianapolis to help them deal with last minute details and day-of items for their fairy tale wedding.

Rob had planned a perfect Christmas-time proposal at Mary’s family home in a way that her sisters, parents, his parents and their fur baby (so cute!!) were all able to celebrate. He had also scheduled in advance manicures for Mary and her sisters so that her nails would look great to show off her new sparkler. (Nice touch!)

Right after the meeting I was hopeful to work with them because they were so much fun and seemed like genuinely nice people (I was right!)

Before I go on, can we just take a moment to acknowledge how perfectly sparkly Mary’s gown was?! Look at that incredible detail!

I get asked a lot about the benefits of having an event planner. Often times it is hard to quantify the reasons as every celebration is different and requires varying levels of assistance and issue management. Unfortunately, Mary and Rob came across a rather large issue shortly after signing with me: their venue had suddenly changed caterers and management.  The night of the announcement Mary, Rob and I had a late-night phone discussion to go over the next steps due to this curve ball. Having used to work at the Scottish Rite, I knew that place inside and out and also had complete confidence in the newly involved Kahn’s Caterers. I was so happy to be able to assist Mary and Rob during that stressful time and I’m happy to report that the day went fabulously despite this change.

Now, back to the fun stuff!

Mary had such a great group of women around her for the wedding morning. I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many sing-a-longs during a get ready period, but it was so much fun! Between a secret friendship toast, special moments with her mother and sisterly love (see the cute hand-heart picture below) the girls definitely had a memorable morning all decked out in their custom-robes gifted from the bride-to-be.

The guys certainly had a relaxing morning complete with a low-key brunch at the Indianapolis Mass Ave hot-spot, the Rathskeller.

Mary and Rob’s ceremony took place at the historic theatre in the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Side note: Are you a local to Indy that has not been to this location? Go there. Seriously. It’s stunning!) Built between 1927 and 1929, the craftsmanship of the woodworking within the theatre is incredible. Not to mention, the breathtaking chandelier.

Mary and Rob decided they wanted to add some kind of a “wow factor” to their special day. Enter Laura Reilly of Laura Reilly Calligraphy. Laura did a real-time painting of the ceremony while it was occurring. Not only was this fun for the guests to see, but it also provided Mary and Rob a wonderful piece to display in their home.

The cocktail reception took place immediately after the ceremony on the balcony of the ballroom followed shortly after by the full reception. Having the reception in the ballroom within the Scottish Rite Cathedral was a memorable experience for all involved. The ballroom is home to ornate carved woodworking, stained glass windows and the focal point chandelier that has 200 lights and weighs 2,500 pounds (it’s a beauty!).

Mary and Rob wanted to have their pup involved in their day as well. As a result, they had a custom cake topper made depicting their new joint title and their little Milo on top a fabulously decadent five tier cake by Simply Perfection Cakes.

The Scottish Rite has some of the most unique spaces to photograph in. Luckily, Mary and Rob chose the fabulous Tall and Small Photography to capture some sweet private moments as well as all the exciting happenings from the day.

At the end of the night, the newlyweds left the building through a bridge of light with their closest family and friends.

So why did I call this a fairy tale wedding?

I mean, just look at this!
